The Showcase is on Saturday 4 July 2026 at The Playhouse (Canberra Theatre Centre), from 4:00pm to 6:30pm. Kids perform once, in the 4pm Becoming Showcase.
The day is split into two parts, so kids aged dancers are not waiting around for hours. In the morning, dancers arrive at 10:00am for a stage run-through and spacing rehearsal, finishing at 12:00pm. They leave the theatre, have a break at home or nearby, and return at 3:00pm. From 3:15pm to 3:30pm there is a warm up and finale rehearsal on stage. The theater opens at 3:30pm for the audience to find their seats, and the Showcase runs from 4:00pm to 6:30pm.
Dancers need to arrive at the theatre in costume, with their hair and makeup done. Once the performance is completed dancers will return the costume provided to them by Dance Northside before leaving the theatre. Dancers can leave their basics provided from home worn under their costume or bring a change of clothes to wear home.
Costumes provided by Dance Northside will be sent home with dancers in week 11. Any uncollected costumes will be taken to the theatre to be given to dancers on the day.
Morning drop off: 10:00am.
Morning pick up: 12:00pm.
Afternoon drop off: 3:00pm.
Post Performance pick up: Approx. 7pm.
Our sign-in and sign-out process is being updated for 2026. Full details will be shared closer to the event.
Due to security and capacity limits at the Playhouse, parents and guardians are not permitted backstage. Only students, staff, and designated volunteers can enter the building.
Every dancer under 18 must be signed out to their parent or guardian, so the pick-up process is staggered and may take a little time. Thank you in advance for your patience as we prioritise the safety of all our performers.
1. Enough food and water to get your dancer through the day – lunch, plenty of snacks, and a drink bottle. Note that our studio is NUT FREE, as we have a number of students with life-threatening nut allergies; please do not pack any foods containing peanuts or tree nuts.
2. Something to keep your dancer entertained while they’re not on stage, e.g. reading material, card games, colouring in, devices. Please make sure all items are labelled with the student’s name. Dance Northside takes no responsibility if items are lost.
3. Street clothes for your dancer to put on after the performance – students will be asked to change out of and return the costumes provided to them by Dance Northside before leaving the theatre.

Makeup is completely optional and should be kept natural and minimal. Dance Northside does not usually advocate for makeup on children, but since we are performing in a lit theatre, we recommend a little bit, so the features of your dancer’s face are not washed out under the bright stage lights.
If choosing to wear makeup, our suggestion of what to apply are below:
Blush - over cheek bone
Eyeshadow - Dark shade close to lashes, light/white shade under the eyebrow on the outside edge
- Lip gloss
